🛠️ Emergency Spill Response: The 5 C’s Guide
📋 Workplace Safety Notice: This procedure is tailored specifically for the Spillmaster General Purpose Spill Kit 80L. It may be printed as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) or displayed as a laminated placard at the kit station.
1. 🛑 CONTROL the Source & Risk
Remove the pair of nitrile gloves from the yellow PVC spill kit bag and put them on before approaching the spill. If safe, stop the leak at its origin by closing valves, plugging the breach, or carefully uprighting the container to prevent further liquid release.
2. 🚧 CONTAIN the Spread
Deploy the required number of general purpose absorbent socks (75mm × 1.2m, up to 2 included) end-to-end around the spill perimeter to halt fluid migration. Prioritise blocking access to stormwater drains, unsealed ground, and pedestrian walkways.
3. 📢 COMMUNICATE the Hazard
Alert nearby workshop or transit staff and immediately restrict access to the affected zone. Notify your WHS supervisor or site emergency warden according to workplace safety procedures. Ensure the high-visibility spill kit sticker is properly maintained and refer to the included physical Spill Kit Instructions for rapid on-site reference.
4. 🧹 CLEAN UP the Liquid
Apply the necessary amount of loose absorbent from the Floor Sweep 10kg bag directly onto the pooled liquid to quickly bind and solidify the spill. For concentrated pooling or sump leaks, deploy the general purpose absorbent pillow (45cm × 45cm) directly into the flow to draw up bulk liquids, and use the heavy‑weight general purpose poly pads (48cm × 43cm, up to 15 included) as required to clean up remaining surface films. Use the dustpan & brush to cleanly sweep up the saturated loose absorbents. Collect all contaminated materials and place them into the supplied contaminated waste bags (450mm × 720mm, up to 3 included) for safe handling.
5. ✅ CHECK & Restock
