WHS & EPA Compliance

  • Selective Absorbency: Hydrophobic technology ensures pads, socks, and pillows only absorb hydrocarbons (oil/fuel), leaving standing water behind to maximize absorption capacity.
  • Standards Compliant: Meets AS1940:2017 requirements for the storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids.
  • Duty of Care: Helps site supervisors, factory operators, and workshop managers satisfy site WHS/EPA requirements and reduce slip hazards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does an 80L Oil & Fuel kit repel water?
Because hydrocarbons often spill outdoors, in outdoor machinery yards, or on wet concrete, hydrophobic absorbents are engineered to repel water and only absorb fuel, oil, and lubricants. This prevents absorbents from wasting capacity on rain or standing water.

Where is an 80L Grab ‘n’ Go Bag best deployed?
It provides a practical balance between high absorbency and portability, making it ideal for maintenance bays, warehouse loading zones, factory floors, and industrial refueling points where quick response to medium-sized spills is required.

Is this 80L kit AS1940 compliant?
Yes. It satisfies the spill response standards set out in AS1940:2017 and supports workplace WHS and EPA duty-of-care obligations for medium-to-large hydrocarbon spill management.

Workplace SOP & 5 C’s Guide

Emergency Spill Response: The 5 C’s Guide

Workplace Safety Notice: This procedure is tailored specifically for the Spillmaster Oil & Fuel Spill Kit 80L. It may be printed as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) or displayed as a laminated placard at the spill kit station.

1. CONTROL the Source & Risk
Remove the pair of nitrile gloves from the red weather-resistant PVC spill kit bag and put them on before approaching the spill. If safe, stop the leak at its origin by closing valves, plugging the breach, or carefully uprighting the container to prevent further release.

2. CONTAIN the Spread
Deploy the required number of polypropylene oil-only absorbent socks (75mm Ă— 1.2m, up to 4 included) end-to-end around the spill perimeter to halt hydrocarbon migration. Prioritise blocking access to stormwater drains, unsealed ground, and open waterways where fuels and oils can rapidly spread.

3. COMMUNICATE the Hazard
Alert nearby workshop or site staff and restrict access to the spill zone, noting the heightened ignition or fire risk inherent to fuel leaks. For larger volumes or high-risk incidents, notify your WHS supervisor or site emergency warden according to workplace procedures. Ensure the spill kit identification sticker is cleanly displayed and refer to the included step-by-step spill response instructions for rapid on-site reference.

4. CLEAN UP the Liquid
For concentrated pooling or sump leaks, deploy the oil-only absorbent pillow (45cm Ă— 45cm) directly into the flow to draw up bulk hydrocarbons. Use the necessary amount of heavy-weight oil-only poly pads (48cm Ă— 43cm, up to 40 included) to absorb surface films and wipe down contaminated surfaces. These specialized hydrophobic items will selectively absorb oils and fuels while completely repelling water. Collect all saturated materials and place them into the supplied contaminated waste bags (450mm Ă— 720mm, up to 3 included) for safe handling.

5. CHECK & Restock
Inspect the area to ensure no slippery residue, dangerous fuel vapors, or surface sheen remains. Securely seal the contaminated waste bags and dispose of them in accordance with local state environmental regulations. Restore full response readiness by restocking the kit with a matching Spillmaster Refill Pack.

Emergency Spill Response: The 5 C’s Guide

Issued on 10/09/2026 • Product: Oil & Fuel Spill Kit 80L (ES-SK80OF)
Workplace Safety Notice: General operational procedure for chemical and fluid incident management utilizing Oil & Fuel Spill Kit 80L. Suitable for display as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) or station placard.
  1. CONTROL the Source & Risk: Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is donned before approaching any hazardous release. If safe to do so, immediately mitigate the source by closing valves, uprighting damaged containers, or applying emergency plugging to stop further flow.
  2. CONTAIN the Spread: Deploy appropriate containment barriers, socks, or bunding around the perimeter of the spill to prevent fluid migration. Prioritise blocking access to stormwater drains, unsealed ground, and pedestrian thoroughfares.
  3. COMMUNICATE the Hazard: Alert nearby personnel, restrict site access around the affected zone, and notify your WHS supervisor or site emergency warden in accordance with facility safety protocols.
  4. CLEAN UP the Liquid: Apply matching loose absorbents, pads, or pillows directly onto the pooled liquid to capture, bind, and neutralize residues. Safely sweep up saturated materials and transfer all contaminated waste into certified disposal bags for secure handling.
  5. CHECK & Restock: Inspect the area thoroughly to ensure no residual hazards or slip risks remain. Seal and dispose of waste in compliance with local environmental regulations, and immediately restock equipment to maintain full operational readiness.
