WHS & EPA Compliance

  • Selective Absorbency: Hydrophobic technology ensures pads and socks only absorb hydrocarbons (oil/fuel), leaving standing water behind to maximize absorption capacity.
  • Standards Compliant: Meets AS1940:2017 requirements for the storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids.
  • Duty of Care: Helps mobile technicians, operators, and fleet managers satisfy site WHS requirements and reduce slip hazards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does an Oil & Fuel kit repel water?
Because hydrocarbons often spill outdoors, in parking bays, or on wet ground, hydrophobic absorbents are engineered to repel water and only absorb fuel, oil, and lubricants. This prevents absorbents from wasting capacity on rain or water puddles.

Where should a 15L hydrocarbon spill kit be stored?
Its compact bag design makes it ideal for mounting in mobile service vans, ute trays, earthmoving machinery cabs, fuel bays, and small workshop maintenance areas.

Is this 15L kit AS1940 compliant?
Yes. It satisfies the spill response standards set out in AS1940:2017 and supports workplace WHS duty-of-care requirements for small hydrocarbon spill management.

Workplace SOP & 5 C’s Guide

Emergency Spill Response: The 5 C’s Guide

Workplace Safety Notice: This procedure is tailored specifically for the Spillmaster Oil & Fuel Spill Kit 15L. It may be printed as a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) or displayed at the spill kit station.

1. CONTROL the Source & Risk
Open the 15L plastic spill kit bag, retrieve the pair of premium nitrile gloves, and ensure responders put them on before approaching the spill. If safe, stop the leak at its origin by closing valves, plugging the breach, or carefully uprighting the container to prevent further release.

2. CONTAIN the Spread
Deploy the polypropylene absorbent sock (75mm x 1.2m) around the spill perimeter to halt hydrocarbon migration. Prioritise blocking access to stormwater drains, unsealed ground, and open waterways to prevent environmental contamination.

3. COMMUNICATE the Hazard
Alert nearby staff and restrict access to the spill zone, keeping in mind the heightened ignition or fire risk inherent to fuel and oil leaks. For substantial volumes, notify your WHS supervisor or site emergency warden. Ensure the weatherproof spill kit identification sticker on the bag is visible and refer to the included step-by-step spill response instructions for rapid on-site reference.

4. CLEAN UP the Liquid
Lay down the heavy-weight oil-only poly pads (48cm x 43cm, up to 10 included) directly onto the pooled hydrocarbons to rapidly absorb the liquid while repelling water. Use the pads to wipe up surface films and clean affected surfaces. Collect all contaminated materials and place them into the heavy-duty waste disposal bag, securing it with the included cable tie.

5. CHECK and Restock
Inspect the area to ensure no slippery residue, dangerous vapors, or surface sheen remains. Dispose of the sealed waste bag in accordance with local state environmental regulations. Restore full response readiness by restocking the bag with a matching Spillmaster Refill Pack.
